Sunridge Veterinary Clinic

CELEBRATING SENIOR PETS

The health of your pet can change rapidly as he or she ages and these changes can go unnoticed. At around 7 years of age your pet enters his or her senior years. At this stage, pets often begin to develop diseases similar to their senior human counterparts, such as diabetes, heart disease, thyroid disease and cancer. In fact, one out of 10 pets that appear healthy has an underlying disease condition.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR SENIOR PET HEALTHY AND HAPPY

Schedule routine checkups. Tell us about any changes you may have noticed about your pet including:

* Weight

* Appetite

* Changes in stool or urination

* Behavior

* Mobility and activity

Ask us about nutrition, exercise and the latest advancements in veterinary pharmaceuticals.

* Special diet and exercise programs can help to control and improve many disease conditions.

* Many health issues common in older pets can be effectively treated and managed with medication.

Consider testing options that can identify early stages of medical conditions before they start to affect your pet's quality of life.

* Routine blood testing

* Urinalysis

* Radiographs

For the months of November and December we are celebrating all senior pets. We recognize the special bond that has developed with your pet over the years and the importance they serve in our lives. We would like to encourage all our clients to take advantage of special promotions we are offering, on all senior pet health screens and dental cleanings. Please call our clinic for more details.

You know your pet better than anyone and can alert us to any changes you may notice before they become serious. We can help you to understand common medical issues that your pet may face and discuss a treatment plan. Together, we can help your pet live a long and happy life.
